The Brightline Train launched in 2018 originally with three stops: Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Miami. Despite only being open for six years, it has grown to be a phenomenon in the city. Brighline has opened three new stations since its grand opening. It can be found in Boca Raton, Aventura, and its most recent opening was in Orlando.
The train has been seen all over the Internet, mainly the infamous @onlyindade on Instagram. Viewers and followers frequently find videos of a new accident on this page. According to CBS News Miami, the most recent fatality was in the new Orlando station. It was reported that a homeless man “intentionally stepped in front of the train,” making it the 99th fatality caused by the train. It has been said the Brightline has the highest death rate in the United States.

According to AZ Animals, they reported in January 2023 that the train has an average of one death per month. Statistics show that about 75% of these deaths were due to suicide. The other 25% is caused by the Floridian drivers and bikers themselves. Now this begs the question, is the Brightline really the deadliest train in the U.S if the drivers are at fault?

Miami drivers stop on the tracks and ignore the railroad crossing barriers that are put down. When it is too late, they do not get out of the car to avoid getting hit. According to the Director of Public Affairs for Brightline, Kate Mitzner, the train will cross the tracks in less than one minute traveling at 80 miles per hour. Law enforcement is working on educating civilians on road safety since the spike in deaths and accidents.
